Proteomic facility

SRIF2 funding has provided a proteomic facility including MALDI-TOF, which is being used to analyse gene expression in yeast and bacteria.

Plant growth rooms

There are also plant growth rooms and tissue culture facilities for plant molecular biology and genetic engineering of cereal plants.

DNA & genetic engineering lab

Dedicated facilities are available for animal cell culture for studying diet-gene interactions. In addition to a number of laboratory-scale fermentation units there is a complete range of equipment for recombinant DNA work and genetic engineering including a confocal microscope, quantitative real time PCR and an Aktapurifier system for protein purification funded by SRIF3.

Equipment for physical analysis for food-related studies includes a rheometer and a texture analyzer
