Climate Advocacy Programme
At Heriot-Watt University, we acknowledge the pressing need for immediate action and recognise our duty to empower our students, staff and the communities in which we operate. The Climate Advocacy course seeks to equip each member of our community with the essential tools to effect positive change. Through the cumulative impact of individual changes big and small, we can collectively contribute to climate action.
The first module of the Climate Advocacy Course is now available for all incoming students across our global campuses and is delivered as part of our University’s Ten Commitments to Sustainability.
Topics presented in Module 1 include:
- The Climate Crisis
- Scope Emissions
- The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Our Climate Action Framework at Heriot-Watt University
- Our Global Campus Progress and Design
- Sustainability in Practice: A Circular Economy
- SDGs and Textiles/Sustainable Fashion
- Our Digital Footprint and Digital Sustainability Strategy
- Our Global Environmental Sustainability Engagement Programme
- Our Global Campus Sustainability Student Engagement.
Additional modules for the Climate Advocacy Course will be released throughout this academic year, and are being co-developed with our staff and students. Through the course, we aim to create a global network of informed and empowered Heriot-Watt University Climate Advocates.
Every module release will be paired with a process of feedback and consultation. To make a programme that is for you, we want to make it with you. We want to hear from students, staff, and alumni interested in contributing content from related course and research projects, including thought-leadership pieces.
