47. Abies grandis

The Grand or Giant Fir amongst other names, may be the tallest Abies species in the world, growing to 40–70 (131-229 feet) metres and exceptionally 100 metres (328 feet) tall. It was first described by Scottish Botanical explorer David Douglas in 1831 whilst collecting specimens in the Pacific Northwest. The wood is used for paper making, packing crates and construction. The inner bark was used by Plateau Indian tribes for treating colds and fever.
