What did you do before starting your masters?
I worked in finance and banking for 10 years before deciding to change career. My two previous degrees were also at Heriot-Watt (MA Economics and MSc International Banking and Financial Studies)
Why did you decide to study Brewing and Distilling?
I wanted to pursue my interest in Scotch whisky. I grew up in Aviemore next to the Spey river so whisky production was always close to my heart.
Why did you decide to study at Heriot-Watt?
HWU is the home of the International Centre for Brewing and distilling and has an outstanding reputation for expertise in the field.
Has Heriot-Watt helped prepare you well for a career?
The connections and knowledge provided by the masters programme were the perfect launch pad for my new career.
What difference did the funding make to choosing further study?
The funding allowed me to concentrate on my studies full time which was invaluable during such an intensive course. I achieved a distinction for my project work in developing the Isle of Harris Gin. It also led to an exciting job opportunity abroad in British Columbia, Canada at Victoria Gin.
