Heriot-Watt University has named Martin Pringle as its Global Chief Financial Officer with immediate effect.

Martin has been with the University since last year, serving as interim Finance Director, overseeing critical projects and providing financial leadership.

A graduate of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics from Heriot-Watt, Martin is a qualified chartered accountant with over 25 years of experience.  He has worked in the financial services industry for several blue-chip companies such as Lloyds TSB, Scottish Widows, Assurant, and latterly at Scottish Friendly.

Sharing his reaction to his appointment, Martin said: “I am delighted to be offered the permanent role and would like to thank the finance teams globally for the support they have given me since day one.

“I’m really proud of their achievements and their commitment to our University’s success. I’m looking forward to continuing to collaborate with all colleagues to build on our remarkable reputation for excellence, innovation, sustainability, and unique purpose of Heriot-Watt in positively impacting all the communities we serve.”

As well as ongoing leadership of the global finance team, Martin will be central to the University's strategic planning process, driving financial and operating performance.

Professor Richard A. Williams, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University, said: “Martin has provided us with superb financial leadership to date and we are very fortunate that he was here initially to provide a seamless transition and oversight of some of our most critical projects. He has connected across our global campuses and become well acquainted with the needs of the whole University.

“I have no doubt that he will continue to be a huge asset to our leadership team.”
