HWUM faculty member recognised by Board of Engineers Malaysia

Wong Voon Loong 2024

An esteemed Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) faculty member from the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) has recently been recognised with the title of Professional Engineer (PEng) by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Assistant Professor Ir. Dr. Wong Voon Loong secured this prestigious title earlier this month.

The BEM is a statutory body that facilitates the registration of Engineers, Engineering Technologists, Inspectors of Works, Sole Proprietorships, Partnerships and Bodies Corporate providing professional engineering services and to regulate the professional conduct and practice of registered person to safeguard the safety and interest of the public.

“As an academic researcher, doubling as a professional engineer, one assumes the dual responsibility of uncovering scientific insights and leveraging that knowledge to shape a brighter future,” said Dr. Wong.

Dr. Wong is currently an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering from EPS at HWUM. He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer registered under Engineering Council, United Kingdom. He is also serving as a researcher and an invaluable member of the principal investigators and research team for national research grants and industrial projects. His research mainly focuses on functional materials in water research.
