GWD HWUM 2024

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) joined in the global celebration of the annual Global Watt Day today, 19 January 2024, to celebrate our inspirational global community - the day commemorates a significant date for the staff, students, and alumni at Heriot-Watt, as the birth date of Scottish inventor, and our University founder, James Watt.

#GlobalWattDay encourages alumni, students and staff around the world to come together and toast to our long heritage, marking 170 years of The Watt Club, the UK’s oldest alumni association.

A simple yet meaningful celebration was held at the HWUM Plaza, where HWUM Provost and CEO Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi gave an insightful opening speech on the University’s rich heritage and history. Around 150 staff and students gathered for the cake-cutting ceremony.

In conjunction with the celebration, HWUM also did a soft launch of the anticipated 'Driven by Purpose' Campaign, which aimed to strengthen our long-standing 'Purpose-Driven Education' initiatives. The campaign is set for a grandeur launch in February 2024 and is designed to support the community’s holistic development through having a clear sense of purpose in life while pursuing your aspirations to mobilise a variety of positive impacts on society and the world beyond. The 'Purpose-Driven Education' initiatives focused on building the resilience and future skills our community needs to flourish, and for you to take your successful places in the global community.

A series of events and activities will be taking place during the launch in February 2024. Stay tuned for more updates!
