HWUM Assistant Professor achieves Senior Fellow status

An esteemed Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM) School of Social Sciences faculty member from the Psychology Department recently achieved Senior Fellow (SFHEA) status by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Dr Joel Yap Chia Keat received a certificate and recognition for his achievements earlier this November.

Dr Joel’s practice and leadership in teaching have been recognised against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education. His work has satisfied the Advance HE criteria that focuses on applying influential and effective practices of high-quality learning in the higher education sector and beyond.

"This achievement is a testament to the shared commitment to excellence. I am deeply thankful for the invaluable lessons learned, the inspiring colleagues I met, and the transformative experiences that have shaped my educational journey. This achievement is not just a personal triumph but also a collective celebration of the boundless possibilities that unfold when passion aligns with purpose,” said Dr. Joel.

The SFHEA is awarded by the HEA that is a member-led, sector-owned charity that works with institutions and higher education across the world to improve higher education for staff, students and society.
