The University is deeply troubled by the conflict in Ukraine and shares the widespread concern expressed across the Higher Education sector and beyond. We fully endorse the Universities Scotland and the Universities UK statements issued recently.

Our top priority is to support staff and students across the Heriot-Watt community and we are offering dedicated support services to those affected by the conflict across our international campuses. In addition, I have spoken with other Principals across Scotland, and with the representative agencies of the UK and Scottish governments, working together to collectively assure the wellbeing of students and staff affected by the conflict.
The conflict has prompted heightened scrutiny of UK-Russia collaborations and, in view of the sanctions the UK Government has imposed, we are reviewing our partnerships in Russia and will take appropriate action where necessary. In this situation of crisis, we remain alert and responsive to developments and will continue to review the steps we can take as a community and across the Higher Education sector on a case-by-case basis, informed both by government guidance and appropriate due diligence.
