We've had a busy week here at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia!
Our #WattACelebration week started on 15 July 2022 with an engaging session 'An Evening with Professor Heather McGregor', our very own visionary leader from our Edinburgh Business School. The session has garnered around 80 participants with an interactive conversation, celebrating the annual United Nations World Youth Skills Day. In conjunction with our summer graduation and celebration week, we have also successfully organised our Open Day and Malaysia Alumni Homecoming 2022 event on 16 July 2022 as part of the celebration.
Our Open Day, which was on 16 - 17 July 2022 was well attended by around 200 parents and potential students who were looking at their study options at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. They were able to learn more about what it's like to study at HWUM and how they can apply for scholarships if they're interested in pursuing their education with us. The turnout was a huge success, kudos to our Marketing, Recruitment, Admission and Communications (MRAC) team!
The celebration was an excellent opportunity for us to get to know our community better, and we had a chance to connect with our Alumni from all over Malaysia and Asia through our Malaysia Alumni Homecoming 2022 event. Around 100 of our Alumni attended the event where they took the opportunity to connect and share their experiences. A networking lunch was organised, followed by an engaging talk session on 'Giving Back' with our Alumnus, Mr Farouk Abdullah, the CEO of Natural Intelligence Solution Technology and MBA Alumnus Class of 2000. He was joined by our Global Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Andrew Jefferson, and our Provost and CEO, Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi. The session was moderated by our Alumni Engagement Office, Mr. Gavin Rennie, who came all the way from our Edinburgh campus.
There was also a Book Prize giving ceremony organised by our School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (MACS), awarding students' excellent academic achievements in the year 2021/2022. The prize, which is a book voucher worth RM200 was sponsored by the information services company Experian Malaysia and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). This is the second year Experian Malaysia has sponsored the book prizes and CAS sponsored for the first time this year. There were ten winners for the Experian Book Prizes and nine for the CAS book prizes. The winners were our Statistical Data Science students and Actuarial Science students. A big congratulations to all of them!
