The Microfluidics Lab is run by Professor Maïwenn Kersaudy-Kerhoas, microfluidic engineering expert. Her research is focused on the development of fast, reliable diagnostic testing and finding sustainable solutions for single-use tests.
The Edinburgh Super-Resolution Imaging Consortium (ESRIC) is a super-resolution microscopy facility, established in partnership with the University of Edinburgh to enhance several areas of research including into neurodegenerative diseases.

The Lyell Centre for Earth and Marine Sciences is one of Heriot-Watt's Global Research Institutes. Advanced facilities include bio-geochemistry, geoenergy, microbiology and marine ecology laboratories, deep sea research and marine operations workshops.

The Centre for Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (CESEM) was set up in 1998 to facilitate state-of-the-art research and foster collaboration. The facility is accessible to all students and staff across the University, and to external commercial users.
