The Medical Device Manufacturing Centre provides medical device developers and manufacturers with the advice, technical expertise, and facilities to translate concepts into commercial products. Find out more at: www.mdmc.hw.ac.uk

The Microfluidics Lab is run by Professor Maïwenn Kersaudy-Kerh​oas, microfluidic engineering expert. Her research is focused on the development of fast, reliable diagnostic testing and finding sustainable solutions for single-use tests.

The Edinburgh Super-Resolution Imaging Consortium (ESRIC) is a super-resolution microscopy facility, established in partnership with the University of Edinburgh to enhance several areas of research including into neurodegenerative diseases.

The Lyell Centre for Earth and Marine Sciences is one of Heriot-Watt's Global Research Institutes. Advanced facilities include bio-geochemistry, geoenergy, microbiology and marine ecology laboratories, deep sea research and marine operations workshops.

Applied Optics and Photonics (AOP) explores the application of lasers and optics for a range of material processing, optical metrology, and sensing applications, working closely with industry, and UK and International research groups. Find out more at: www.aop.hw.ac.uk

The Centre for Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (CESEM) was set up in 1998 to facilitate state-of-the-art research and foster collaboration. The facility is accessible to all students and staff across the University, and to external commercial users.

Dr Clayton Magill explains the work of the Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry Labs, based in the Lyell Centre, and the services available to a wide range of collaborators and industry, from pharmaceuticals to forensics.
