13. Oriam & The Walled Garden
The original kitchen garden of Riccarton House has been used as an all-weather sports pitch and a car park and is a listed structure. It is now the home of Oriam which is Scotland's national performance centre for sport. The gardeners' bothies are still present on the north wall. The wall would have been heated by stoves, and probably had glazed lean-to glasshouses facing south to enable exotic fruit to be produced for the house.
