Biography
Peter Cumber has been working in university education for the last 20 years. In that time, he has worked in many roles within the Mechanical Engineering Department. His quality of teaching has been recognised by the award of several teaching prizes such as:
- Awarded University of Canterbury, New Zealand, Erskine Teaching Fellowship, 2013
- Exon Mobil Excellence in Teaching, 2011
Before his career in university education, he worked in industry at the Fire Research Station, 1987-1990, and then Advantica Technologies Ltd, (formerly British Gas Research), 1990-2001. This was primarily as a consultant safety engineer undertaking research into industrial safety.
Research
Main areas of research interest are: educational research applied to promoting engagement of the student cohort, thermal radiation modelling, fire safety modelling and application of the Monte-Carlo method to engineering problems.
