What did you like about your programme and why?
A wide variety of topics were covered throughout the course and some subjects were quite interdisciplinary too. The course also allows you to customise your own path and focus on research areas of your own interest. Along with the breadth of subjects, the course content is also theoretically grounded and we are encouraged to critically analyse these and be discerning when applying theory to practice. The course faculty and host of guest lecturers are amazing.
How did the programme support you in your career and personal growth?
The course has bettered my understanding of intercultural interactions, which is particularly relevant in a diverse country like the UAE. Also, the coaching course has helped in honing my leadership and people skills. And generally, I feel academic writing helps in developing your own thoughts and voice.
Describe Heriot-Watt University in four words.
Inclusive, vibrant, student-centric, contemporary.
Why is it important for people to have expertise in this field?
Studying people in the workplace is often reserved for management studies, and this stream somehow classifies people into ‘resources.’ What gets forgotten is that people in a workplace, bring with them, their own culture, quirks and worldviews, all of which influence decision-making. And when many such diverse people interact in a workplace, the process becomes more complex than just ‘getting work done’ and that’s where Business Psychology becomes relevant. A work-driven place like the UAE, can definitely benefit from a more humanistic approach to people-management.
Would you recommend Heriot-Watt University to anyone and why?
Explore very contemporarily relevant subjects in a very student-centric campus.
