About

Since 1994, Dr Batikha has been teaching various courses related to Structural Engineering for both UG and PG students (e.g., Structural Analysis, Strength of Materials, Steel Structures, Concrete Structures, Composite and Pre-stressed elements, Bridge design, Seismic design, and Tall buildings). He has also guided research work individually and through the supervision of research students in different structural engineering fields.

In consultancy work, Dr Batikha has completed many high-standard projects from 1994 till the present time in different countries and different areas of materials (Cold-formed steel sections, Hot-Finished steel sections, and Reinforced-Concrete sections) besides design and structural rehabilitation under earthquake actions.

  • Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering in the Civil Engineering program at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai (since 2015)
  • Associate Director of Research for the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure, and Society (since 2016)
  • Founding Editor of the Centre of Excellence in Smart and Sustainable Construction (CES2C) Research Bulletin (2019 - 2023)
  • Full-time academic staff member at Damascus University (1994 - 2015)

Research

Dr Batikha's research interests include non-linear analysis and modelling of structures under different loading scenarios, rehabilitation and strengthening of structures, working on bridges and tall buildings, and sustainable concrete and 3D concrete printing. Dr Batikha has over 40 publications and is a reviewer for many high-ranked journals. He has also contributed to many research events as a keynote speaker, a research summit panellist, a research group leader, a research workshop chair, a live CPD speaker, and a research expert in media news.
