About
Gary Pheiffer currently teaches the Master's in business psychology programme along with some UG sessions and related work such as dissertation supervision. He enjoys supervising projects in areas of work psychology, with specific interests in adult attachment issues, HRM, wellbeing, change and identity themes, cross cultural issues, and work engagement.
Biography
Gary joined Heriot-Watt in September 2022, after working for five years at the University of Hertfordshire as Principal Lecturer in HRM and course leader for all HRM PG programmes. Prior to this, he was a Principal Lecturer in the area of Occupational Psychology, and course leader for MSc Occupational Psychology and Prof Doc in Occupational Psychology programmes at London Metropolitan University. He is a registered Occupational Psychologist with the HCPC and BPS and holds a Chartered CIPD (HRM) membership of the CIPD and Fellow HEA. His doctoral studies were in adult attachment and the influence in the workplace. He enjoys teaching and developing motivated critical thinking employable students. He is part of an ongoing research project into student learning experiences with an international team of researchers. Before joining academia, Gary worked in banking and the engineering industry as a HR manager and Psychologist. He is also an external examiner at UCL and the University of Arts (London) and holds an associate visiting lecturer position at Catholic University of Milan, Italy in the Psychology Department.
Research
- Adult attachment: To explore the influence of adult attachment in areas such as teams, leadership, wellbeing and performance.
- Student wellbeing is looking at what impacts on issues such as student wellbeing and the role of identity and belonging, what influence and impacts are there on student belonging.
- Wellbeing in all workplace areas and specifically what is the role and impact of student wellbeing on teachers job demands, and what resources are useful in this process.
