About
Dr Jelena Janjusevic is Associate Professor in Finance, with more than20years of international teaching experience, research, consulting, and management currently employed at Edinburgh Business School at Heriot Watt University, Dubai campus. She is Academic Head of Accountancy, Economics and Finance Department in Dubai, and Global program Director for MSc Sustainable Finance with fintech Program. She teaches the UG and PG programs in finance and accounting and is actively involved in developing and coordinating the executive education portfolio for SoSS. Her areas of expertise include financial markets, investments, portfolio management, sustainable finance, research in finance (econometrics), financial derivatives, but also economics (both micro and macro), as well as economy of sustainable development.

Research
In her more than 20 year long working experience, out of which more than 12 years of international teaching experience as finance and economics professor, and more than 18 years in research, consulting and management; Dr Jelena was engaged in different research projects and activities. She has spent more than 7 years working in the first think tank organization in Montenegro as a researcher and analyst on many different projects dealing with financial markets, macroeconomics, capacity development, sustainable development, reforms, etc. and continued working with international organizations managing projects in different areas.
She established and led the Center for Sustainable Development, a research center founded by the UN and Government of Montenegro, where she was involved in designing, fundraising and spearheading the project portfolio of more than USD 20 mil. Those research activities served as a bridge between science and policy decisions on different levels and for different partners on national and international level (government of Montenegro, municipalities, social partners, foreign government officials, international institution representatives – World Bank, IFC, EBRD, USAID, UNDP, CHF, EC, etc, domestic and foreign private companies).
Besides finance, her passion is sustainable development and she worked on a number projects in this area for UN and World bank. She invented, developed, obtain funding and implemented or coordinated implementation of more than 10 projects, with the total budget of over USD 20 mil. Many ideas and projects were presented on the high-level conferences and meetings, such as UN General Assemblies in New York, UN Climate Change Summit in Paris, Columbia University, as well as awarded by high level academic institutions in the world. She led a team awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as the best idea in sustainable energy in 2012 worldwide – Using energy efficiency to resolve illegal construction in Montenegro.
In her current role, as Associate professor in Finance at Heriot Watt University, and Academic Head for AEF and Executive Education, she initiated many projects enhancing students’ research and innovation (such as First University Blockchain Challenge in UAE, development of Exec ed portfolio, organization of International research conference, etc.).
She wrote and published number of articles and was part of the team of authors of important publications. Besides presented work, she is working with her students on UG and PG dissertations, guiding and assisting them in their particular field of research. She was mentor on more than 200 thesis for graduate and undergraduate students. Her research plans are linked with sustainable investing and finance.
