Syed guides both undergraduate and postgraduate students through a range of creative disciplines at Heriot-Watt University, from design research and design thinking to editorial design, typography, motion graphics, film editing, branding, advertising, UI/UX design, and information visualisation.

With over 18 years’ experience in leading design studios and branding agencies across the UK, India, and the MENA region, Syed’s expertise spans design strategy, consultancy, and curation. His diverse skill set empowers students with comprehensive, real-world knowledge, preparing them to navigate the vibrant landscape of design with confidence.

Research

Syed's research considers the relationship between pictograms and the representation of abstract concepts. He is the creator of PCSoRT: Pictogram Communication System of Religious Tolerance—a computer-mediated pictogram communication system that can serve as a tool to promote religious tolerance on social networking sites.
