Graduating in absentia
If you do not wish to attend a ceremony in person and would like your certificate sent to you, please apply to graduate in absentia. If you have already graduated but have not yet received your certificate you can apply now via Student Self Service.
It is essential in many cases to apply to graduate before you receive formal notification of your results. However, if you have made an application but do not subsequently receive an award decision you will not be eligible to graduate.

Pre-2011 Graduates
If you were eligible to graduate prior to 2011 but did not complete an application, please contact student-records-awards@hw.ac.uk.
Receiving your certificate
Please allow 4-6 weeks from your graduation date for delivery.
If you are applying to graduate in absentia after your graduation date please allow 4-6 weeks from the deadline date (last day of the month you have applied in) for delivery of your certificate.
Please note: Heriot-Watt University can only offer a replacement original certificate if the original is damaged or lost in transit during the delivery process (must be reported within 3 months of the certificate being sent). Damaged certificates must be returned as evidence if a replacement certificate is required. If a certificate has been lost in transit, the University must be informed within 3 months of the date the certificate is sent so that this can be verified using tracking information.
