Marie Torp
Marie graduated from the MSc in Real Estate Investment and Finance in 2013. She now works as a Junior Account Manager for BN Bank ASA in Oslo, Norway.
Can you tell us about your current job?
I currently work as a Junior Account Manager and my main responsibility involves lending out money for commercial real estate. I have a small portfolio, but I am also working closely with some senior account managers with more and bigger customers, which is giving me the chance to learn a lot.
Why did you decide to come to Heriot-Watt over other places offering similar courses?
Heriot-Watt has a good reputation in Norway and offered me a course that suited me best. Apart from that, studying in Scotland has also given me the opportunity to improve my English.
What was your experience of doing the MSc in Real Estate Investment and Finance at Heriot-Watt University?
It was tough and demanded a lot of work to get good results, but in the end it was worth it. The classes were not too small or large and the courses were really focused on real estate. You also got to know your teacher a little bit and you got your own mentor, which was great.
Do you think your Heriot-Watt postgraduate experience gave you an edge in your chosen field and why?
Yes, definitely. Mostly, because there is no comparative degree like this in Norway. Also, working with international students has given me a broader perspective.
