Why I chose IPE
The reputation was known in my university in France, some other students had done the programme before me. It has also a good reputation in the industry.
Why I chose this programme
PE seemed to be the most diversified from the three programs. I had already studied geoscience and reservoir engineering in my first degree. I wanted to include some more 'general' petroleum engineering to my education. Regarding IPE more specifically, I think the course content was well detailed and rich, the lectures most of the time interesting and the weekly planning well organised. The company presentations were really useful for the students to learn more about companies and eventually get a job.
My student experience
I liked going around the campus, enjoying a coffee in the grounds (when it was not raining). Having several places to go for lunch was appreciated, it was the time to socialise with students on the course.
I really enjoyed myself, meeting people from so many different countries and backgrounds was really enriching.
Regarding the lifestyle, it was totally different from what I had known in France. I enjoyed studying in the library which offered group study rooms. I really enjoyed myself, meeting people from so many different countries and backgrounds was really enriching, we shared some intense moments together.
My career plans
I got recently hired by BG Group after attending a presentation and a technical interview on campus. The career advisor at Heriot Watt was of great help. The next step for me now is moving down to Reading to start my individual project with the company and finally start my job in September.
My top tips
Try to work regularly and of course enjoy yourself!
