Gavin Scott

Gavin graduated in 2015 with BSC Hons in Urban Planning and Property Development. During his time at Heriot-Watt Gavin was Class Rep for two years, ensuring that his fellow students were well represented. He also assisted with tours for prospective students. He was one of the founders of the UPPD Network, a platform created by students to encourage knowledge sharing and networking. He is currently working with CuthbertWhite, an owner-managed property consultancy based in the centre of Edinburgh.

Can you tell us about your current job?

I am an assistant surveyor with CuthbertWhite focusing mainly on agency, development and investment work. I work with a range of occupiers, landlords, developers and investors to assist and advise on their property requirements.

What appealed to you most about Heriot-Watt University when you made the decision to come here?

The main attraction to Heriot-Watt was the dual accreditation of the course. This helped to give me a broad knowledge of the property industry. The focus on team work also reflects what it is like working in the industry and it was helpful to work with different disciplines from an early stage.

How has your degree programme prepared you for a career?

In addition many of the practical units throughout the four years mirrored skills and tasks that I now carry out every day.

What would you say to prospective students considering Heriot-Watt as their first choice of university?

Heriot-Watt offers a fantastic course in an excellent setting. Heriot-Watt continues to grow from strength to strength and is internationally admired across many industries.
