Tell us about your current job
I joined the 1LET team in September 2013 and I am currently working as an Assistant Property Manager responsible for complex Property Management Services. I couldn't imagine a better place to start my work experience, every day is completely different and there is a friendly atmosphere in the office. On top of that, my colleagues are very helpful and I am learning something new every day. The most important thing is that the business itself is developing and it's great to be part of this exciting process.
Why did you decide to come to Heriot-Watt over other places offering similar courses?
I studied Real Estate in my first degree and I was looking for something new. Heriot-Watt University was the only Edinburgh-based university that fulfilled my requirements by offering postgraduate programmes focused on strictly commercial real estates which would help me to gain new knowledge.
What was your experience of doing a postgraduate degree at Heriot-Watt University?
First of all I met great people, including both classmates and lecturers. Heriot-Watt's location is exceptional and during sunny days you appreciate how green the Campus is! It also has great facilities for studying, sports and – what every student is looking for – social activities. All my modules were focused on the most important aspects of real estate practice and my assignments were challenging, creating good opportunities to broaden my knowledge.
Do you think your postgraduate experience here gave you an edge in your chosen field and why?
Yes. This one year allowed me to improve my business and real estate English as well as my presentation and organisation skills. Moreover, thanks to the Real Estate Management and Sustainability module I decided which direction I wanted to take my professional education in. Qualifications from Heriot-Watt are recognised around the world, so an MSc with Distinction is great to have!
What advice would you give to a postgraduate student considering embarking on their studies at Heriot-Watt?
Start your assignments a few weeks in advance; make an effort; then celebrate as hard as you've studied. It's only one year and it will fly by!
