What appealed to you most about Heriot-Watt University?

The international diversity of the university attracted me the most. I get to meet people from all walks of life as the university has a great mobility programme, allowing students from other countries to come here, and vice versa. This gives me great exposure on the global context in terms of culture and diversity. The location of the campus is fascinating too, it is situated right in front of the Putrajaya Lake and the environment of the campus is peaceful and really conducive for studying.

What tips would you give to a student thinking of studying at Heriot-Watt?

Just do it! Heriot-Watt University would provide you a truly different university experience. Heriot-Watt University places emphasis on its students, and therefore are genuinely concerned about the student's academic and personal well-being, with the provision of a mentor for each student.

What did you enjoy the most about studying your degree?

It's interesting to learn and discover new and diverse areas knowledge through the course of my studies. The university also has a culture of training us to be an independent learner and critical thinking in everything that we do. This would prepare me well and I'm sure will be a great influence on what I would be in the future.

Do you feel your degree has prepared you well for a career?

Yes, the degree programme helps me have a greater development in terms of practical skills during every lab session. In every lab session in the Psychology course, we are able to learn how to carry out an experiment in the correct manner, how to write a report in a formal manner and present our experiments to others by explaining the procedure. The degree programme ranges from psychology to business management, which broadens our career prospects.

Has your degree programme helped you develop links with industry?

Yes, definitely. The university provides power hour workshops monthly. The workshops help us strengthen our skills on citation, referencing, finding resources, and lwriting iterature reviews. In addition, the university career services organise career related events frequently at the campus in order to help us to have greater exposure, connection and understanding with the industry.

How do you think your degree will impact on your career prospects?

The programme helps us to develop skills in areas such as critical thinking, independent learning and communication skills. As we have developed these skills during our university life, this would prepare us well when we enter the industry. Critical thinking and independent learning help us to be better at both the university and in the working world.
