What made you choose to study at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University?
I researched fully the opportunities I had to complete my MBA, I looked at the quality of a number of Universities within the UK, Europe and Canada. During that time I was working and travelling internationally, it was important to me that I had a fully flexible program that would take into account my work schedule was transportable but that was high quality. I visited the Campus in advance and looked at the University ratings, background of Professors and teaching material. After completing my “due diligence” I was proud to enrol in the Program and was confident of my decision.
Why did you choose to study an MBA?
It was an individual choice, my career was developing nicely, I had undertaken a number of industry specific training programs but wanted something more, something that would grow my general business knowledge and ability to lead. I discussed my interest with my employer who was supportive, I also discussed the commitment with my young family who equally were supportive.
What's your favourite / most memorable memory of your time as a Heriot-Watt student?
The Graduation ceremony was an incredible celebration of the achievement. My family attended and we enjoyed a holiday afterwards in the Highlands and Edinburgh. The Strawberry social was a highlight.
How would you summarise your time studying an MBA with the Edinburgh Business School?
In one word challenging, the time commitment and practical realities of travelling frequently on business internationally in addition to running a turnaround while having a young family meant I needed to learn how to balance the demands and yet be successful in all areas. I enjoyed the program, even though I had an undergraduate in Business I learned significantly through my studies.

How has your Heriot-Watt University education contributed to your success?
Todays world is challenging and uncertain. I believe that education gives you the ability to think critically, learn, understand and develop the skills needed to be successful today. Education also gives you confidence having graduated from programs involving rigorous learning and thinking skills. For all of us continuing to learn as new skills are required allows us to remain competitive in our field.
How has your MBA benefited you personally?
My MBA rounded out my learning and gave me confidence in my ability. My employers recognized the level of achievement and education along with the outcomes and results I had achieved in my career.
What advice do you have for current students?
Make the most of the opportunity to truly learn, not simply memorize but instead understand, apply and gain the ability to think broadly and critically. Ensure that your family understands the commitment you are making and that their support is critical to your commitment.
What is your lasting impression of Heriot-Watt University?
I have remained in contact with the University and proud to see how it is growing and being recognized as a leading educator in so many sectors
What are your aspirations for the future?
For your career?
I am now in what I describe as the next stage of my career, sitting on Boards, providing Advisory services and working with a number of early stage companies as a mentor and advisor on a volunteer basis. I am looking to still grow, develop and learn but also have a bit more balance while also giving back.
For your local and wider community?
Our family has always been very involved in our community, volunteering, giving back. Our children (now adults) have learned and grown through these experiences and it is such a great thing to do. I am very proud of my families accomplishments and how we have all grown together and had fun through our community activities.
