Steven has 32 years' banking experience, currently as the chief executive officer of C. Hoare & Co. the UK's oldest and most prestigious private bank. His mandate is to add a contemporary feel to the heritage of the business, ensuring its future relevancy in a fast-changing world.

Prior to this Steven was the chief executive officer of Barclaycard Business where he managed the payments division for Barclaycard globally. Before this, he was CEO of personal banking at Barclays for both the UK and Europe and CEO, UK Business Banking. During his time in these roles he gained experience of the rapidly changing landscape of consumer and SME banking with digital technology and data.

Steven has lived and worked in Africa and India; he has extensive experience of working across continental Europe and the USA.

Steven holds a number of non-executive director appointments: Robert Walters PLC, a global recruitment firm; Cashflows Europe Ltd, a private equity backed payments business; and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

He serves as a trustee of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and as a commissioner for the Social Mobility Commission. Steven is an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
