Project Title
Pore-scale 3D Imaging of Hydrogen Storage in Reservoir Rocks
Abstract
Subsurface hydrogen storage can be a viable option to account for fluctuations in the global energy demand from renewable resources. Although a considerable research has been undertaken related to hydrogen storage in salt caverns, little is known about its storage in porous reservoir rocks such as depleted oil and gas fields. This PhD project will focus on understanding the fundamental aspects of cyclic loading of hydrogen in porous rocks at reservoir conditions using both in-house and time-resolved synchrotron X-ray micro-tomography (3D non-destructive imaging). The results will be compared with pore-scale models.
