Brian is currently a Partner and Head of Sustainable Investment (SI) for UK, Europe and IMETA at Mercer. Their focus is helping investors manage complex climate, nature and social impact investment risks and opportunities. Prior to his SI leadership role at Mercer, Brian created the industry's largest dedicated Defined Contribution (DC) consulting team.

Brian is regularly asked to speak at conferences and is frequently quoted in the press on subjects covering sustainability/ESG, pension scheme design, investment strategy, defined contribution, pension regulation and private markets.

For many years, Brian really enjoyed being part of various industry or policy groups, including as a member of the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA) Policy Board and DC committee, the CFA Institute Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) working group, the UK Government Social Impact Investment Implementation taskforce and as Chair of the PLSA cross-industry task-force delivering guidance for trustees on ESG and stewardship.

Brian is interested in new thinking and delivering innovation, winning a few industry awards along the way, as well as receiving patents in both pensions and medical lasers. He received his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, in 1990. He is also is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).
