Biography
Dr Fabienne Chedid is an Assistant Professor in Operations Management and Logistics at Heriot‑Watt University, Dubai Campus. Fabienne holds a PhD in Operations and Supply Chain Management from Bayes Business School (previously called Cass), City, University of London. She completed a Master of Business Administration and BEng in Civil Engineering at the Lebanese American University. Prior to working with HW Dubai, she had several teaching and research roles at Bayes Business School, London Business School (LBS), ESCP Business School, University of London, and De Montfort University. Her primary areas of expertise and research interests include Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Quantitative Business Analysis, Data and Business Analytics.
The overall purpose of her research is to understand how networks interact with each other in a supply chain context. In particular, her research investigates the embeddedness of firms in networks, the characteristics of networks, and their impact on the focal firm performance.
In her research, she adopts the perspective that firms are embedded in two separate networks: the internal network consisting of the company (parent) and its subsidiaries, and the external network consisting of the company’s customers, suppliers, and their subsidiaries. Incorporating three theoretical perspectives—embeddedness, social network theory and complexity theory—her research relies mainly on large‑scale secondary data to offer an understanding of the interplay between networks and their effect on several dimensions of performance.
By using large datasets, her research studies are one of the first empirical studies that examine the firm‑level effects of this dual embeddedness considering firm‑level performance, thus extending previous findings of operational performance in the literature.
One of her PhD papers was shortlisted for the Harry Boer award for the best paper authored by a PhD student and received first runner‑up Harry Boer Best Doctoral Paper Award at the 27th EurOMA annual conference organised by the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. The Harry Boer Highly Commended Best Student Paper Award, established in 2009, is granted to the best paper presented at the EurOMA conference authored by a PhD student. The award is supported by Emerald, publisher of the International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Papers are judged on their contribution towards the advancement of theory and practice of Operations Management.
In 2021, the paper was published in IJOPM.
