David is the Associate Professor of Contemporary Management Practices at the Edinburgh Business School. In addition to programme leadership role, he is the global course leader for ‘Business Skills for the Second Machine Age’ delivered to second-year undergraduate business management students and graduate apprenticeship (GA) students. He is also the GA Capstone Project course leader and delivers workshops for the Future Made for Success programme.
During his 37-year career, mainly in the US private sector, he built high-performance teams and directed sales operations and strategic account management processes in extremely fast-paced work environments and competitive markets involving multi-million-dollar contracts.
He was a keynote speaker at the Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport’s International Centenary Convention in 2019 and the MBA Career Services & Employer Alliance (CSEA) annual European conference in 2018.
In his private consulting work, he designs and delivers workshops on the art and science of asking questions for fieldwork and life skills, research question design, design thinking, and researcher resilience. David is a guest lecturer at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass), Edinburgh University School of Social and Political Science, and the Edinburgh University Institute for Academic Development. He has delivered workshops for the Institute of Directors Scotland (IoD), NHS Education for Scotland, The Scottish Government’s Economic Development Directorate, and the 51st Highland Battalion (7 SCOTS).

Background
For eight years, David served as director of strategic development, Northeast US, for the Higher Education division of the Aramark Corporation. Aramark was consistently ranked by Fortune as one of the world’s most admired companies in the category of diversified outsourcing services. He directed all activities related to the execution of customised account strategies including pro-active contract renewals, formal bid processes, and risk assessment and mitigation for existing Aramark business partners generating $4 million to $37 million in revenue annually.
Prior, David worked for five years as director of sales operations and communications for eCollege.com (now Pearson Education), an online learning software-as-a service provider dedicated to higher education institutions, and for an additional year as the company's Northeast U.S. regional manager. eCollege was recognised by Eduventures as one of the 100 most innovative and successful companies driving growth in the learning markets. He built eCollege’s sales operations from the ground up. Forbes included eCollege on its list of America’s Top 25 Fastest Growing Technology Companies in 2004 and 2005.
