Bloomberg Market Concepts
Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is a library of e-learning courses that provides an introduction to the financial markets.
BMC has 3 available courses:
- Core Concepts (8 hrs)
- Getting Started on the Terminal (2 hrs)
- Portfolio Management (2 hrs).
The Core Concepts course has 4 modules – Economic Indicators, Currencies, Fixed Income, and Equities.
We offer the BMC course (free) to all Edinburgh Business School students each year, and our staff have taken it too!
What do the Bloomberg terminals do?
Our Bloomberg terminals are open to all students in our Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Marketing, and Economics departments. The terminals enable our students to practically understand critical aspects of markets, business behaviours and economic trends, making this facility relevant for learners in all business disciplines. Further, our terminals provide data and insights for organisations from all industries, inviting students to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. Find out more.
Accounting and Financial analysis
By providing financial histories of companies and indices including current and historical income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, ratio analysis and more.
Strategic portfolio analysis
Through creating portfolios against markets and market positions, allocation of assets and performance attribution analysis.
Market share analysis
By providing key industry data, interactive charting and commentary by Bloomberg industry experts. It also provides industry fundamental statistics, market share and other key industry specific metrics (i.e. retailers, airlines, global auto manufacturing, etc.)
Supply chain analysis
Through company’s supply chain relationships that includes suppliers, customers and competitors. This enables managers to refine their supply chain configuration and strategy.
Performance comparison reports
Our terminals can create reports showing performance comparrisons between different companies or industries using: financial reports, company valuations, company news, company portfolios, key changes/trends.
The course is very useful and provides valuable professional views of important finance topics being taught in academia. It also provides academics with useful examples of how to teach advanced finance topics in a hands-on, practical way. Surely, students who successfully complete the course will be able to prove the quality of their academic degrees and have the foundation to start their career in capital markets.
