The proposal I have developed is in harmony with the existing design concept of Peebles High School. The issue of noise pollution in open-plan educational environments has been identified as a significant disruption to students' learning experiences. Particularly, students facing learning challenges and disabilities are notably impacted by the lack of sound insulation in the current design.
To address this concern, a new approach emphasising adaptable and biophilic design elements was considered necessary to create a comprehensive learning environment. This approach aims to increase flexibility and foster a strong connection among students, the community, and the natural surroundings. Beyond enhancing educational outcomes, this strategy aims to support ecological and societal resilience.
Prioritising sustainability and adaptability, utilising the river and surrounding natural features as educational assets. The facade represents the harmonious relationship between the school and the adjacent River Tweed, with its curved design maximizing solar energy utilisation and natural ventilation.
