'The Southside' by Chrystal Dube

A project inspired by and based on one’s upbringing and being brought up in the southern part of Africa where a lot of strong culture is displayed, from fashion to non-fashion aspects. The project opens a window for exploration of colour, African prints/ patterns as well as styles which are further developed into a luxurious ready-to-wear, womenswear design collection to align with the current trends in fashion and future forecasting. The project includes a predominant use of up-cycled denim to represent the amount of denim worn during upbringing which is presented in the form of a variety of techniques including slashing, peekaboos, contrasting patchwork and warping.
