'Assessment of fibre fragmentation caused by textile abrasion' by Malithi Perera
Fibre fragmentation (FF) of natural and manmade textiles is concerning, as these fibres enter ecosystems unnoticed, causing significant pollution. It is crucial to assess FF due to the growing textile production, leading to increased water, air, and land pollution, posing risks to all life forms. The purpose of this research is to contribute new insights to facilitate the textile industry in mitigating pollution caused by FF.
This was achieved by conducting secondary research on academic literature and primary research utilising the FF abrasion test method and FF visual scale. In conclusion, it was evident that FF abrasion test method and FF visual scale hold significant potential as well-founded, reliable, replicable, time and cost-efficient means of quantifying FF resulting from dry abrasion, pending further research.
