My final project was inspired by my dad, who is a self-employed builder at our home on the Isle of Mull. My dad had continually struggled to find water resistant clothes for work that were durable enough for the construction environment, waterproof enough for the West Coast weather, and didn’t become too hot and uncomfortable during the strenuous tasks on the building site
Through this project I researched a number of ways of creating a water resistant, durable, and water vapor permeable textile coating. I landed on a coating solution that I decided to further test for water vapour permeability, tensile strength, and abrasion resistance. Overall, the coating solution proved to be suitable for the construction environment.
Through-out this project I have employed a wide range of scientific knowledge and gained a greater understanding of the textile coating industry, and I enjoyed it thoroughly!
