Textile waste has become one of the most serious problems within the fashion industry in the past century.

Before the introduction of mass clothing and textile production access to materials was limited, especially for people who did not belong to the rich upper classes. Therefore, there was an incentive to not waste fabric and to prolong the lifetime of garments as much as possible.

The aim is to apply the methods they used to achieve this for making slow, sustainable fashion. To further aid waste reduction, instead of using virgin materials this project uses second-hand clothing to produce upcycled garments. This also allows for application of the sustainable historical methods in the full extent.
