Comfort in Reminiscence

My project aims to explore themes of nostalgia and memories to produce knits that create a sense of belonging and connection with the wearer, using colours that are fun and reminiscent of my childhood.

The garment collection is based on my hometown of Port Seton, where I took inspiration from the patterns, colours and textures I found there. The collection is grouped into 3 categories: the graphic and bold images found from murals, lockdown rocks and paintings by local artist John Bellany, the interlocking netting and ropes, and the repeated patterns of brickwork and natural landscapes.

The yarns and techniques chosen were also designed to be soft and comforting, to create a full sensory experience of feeling safe and happy.
