Eilidh Cassidy

For my honours project, I chose to research my Chinese heritage and culture, connecting that to my Scottish upbringing. This project is very personal to me as it gave me an opportunity to learn more about the place I was born before being adopted as a baby through inter-country adoption to Scotland.

My visual theme is inspired by the patterns and vibrant colours found on the exterior of the Chinese Buddhist temples that I visited on several trips to China. I chose this theme because, as a designer, I have always been drawn to architecture. I have taken inspiration from and experimented with different methods, that include the application of different scales, varying of rotation and use of a variety of colour palettes.

I have loved the challenge of combining these diverse bright colours into a relaxing design, to create a multipurpose mat that can be used for meditation and yoga.
