‘Cult of Girl’ by Alexandra Montgomery

My project investigates the feelings of desperation and pressures online influencers cause their followers to feel.

Commenting on current trends and manifestation culture, ‘Cult of Girl’ is a guide rooted in satire based around social media gurus. It is a critique on the almost cultish following influencers have and how followers are then preached at with idealised lifestyles and the promise of fulfilment through influencer philosophies and products.

The second half, Paragon, shows the messy, real lives of girls. It serves as a counterpoint to the carefully curated and filtered representations that we see online. From bedside tables to stuffed teddys, this reality.
