Background
I am a part-time Associate Professor in Textile Technology at the School of Textiles and Design. The main focus of my research, until recently, has been pressure garments for the treatment of hypertrophic burn scars. This work has been published in the two most important journals in the burn care community, I work with the Pressure Therapy Interest Group, international commercial pressure garment manufacturers and have also been an invited plenary speaker at the British Burn Association and Australian and New Zealand Burn Association meetings. I am currently diversifying my research interests into compression for the treatment of lipoedema, and more recently into textile technologies to facilitate a more sustainable fashion industry.
During my 20+ year tenure as a lecturer in the School of Textiles and Design I have written, led and taught many textile technology and product evaluation related courses. I currently teach Undergraduate students on Textiles in Practice 4 (knit), Textiles 1 and Textiles 2; and Postgraduate students on Materials and Research Methods. In addition to the normal administrative duties associated with being Director of Postgraduate Research Study, I regularly facilitate discussion groups for PGR students affiliated with the School.
