Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source that harnesses heat from within the Earth’s crust.

This heat originates from the formation of the planet and the radioactive decay of materials.

Geothermal energy has a large potential to deliver de-centralised heat or electricity from water sources located beneath rock surfaces. Geothermal reservoirs exist in most parts of the world and can be produced from high (deep) or low (shallow) subsurface areas.

The GeoEnergy group undertake field and laboratory work to improve the characterisation and resource assessment of geothermal reservoirs.
