Introduction to scholarships

PhD scholarships are rare and highly sought after. From time to time however, the school offers PhD scholarships attached to specific, defined projects and supervisors. These PhD scholarships are funded by the school and are open to UK residents, with fees funded at a ‘home’ level and an annual stipend that follows the EPSRC standard rate.

The selection process for funded projects is normally competitive, with only one position available. All available scholarships will be advertised below. Please note the school does not offer scholarships for MPhil or MSc by research, or to speculative applicants.

Applying to scholarship projects

Applications to available scholarships should be submitted via the Heriot-Watt website before the deadline, following instructions in the advert. Applicants should ensure both academic and residency eligibility for the scholarship before applying.
